Use a human model when the shopper needs the body to judge the product. The useful jobs are body-relative scale, fit, drape, coverage, wear position, or application context. Do not add a model shot only because the category convention includes one.
Baymard's product-image research supports showing accessories, apparel, and cosmetics on a human model because the body can supply evaluation context that an isolated product image cannot.[1] The model is evidence about the product, not decoration.
