Lessons

2 lessons, in order.

0/2
  1. Lesson 1: Locate the shopper before you diagnose the store

Name what the shopper arrived from, what they were trying to do, and the next observable action before choosing an investigation.

  2. Lesson 2: Choose one progress signal for each journey stage

Map a shopper job to an observable next action, a denominator, and a business guardrail instead of collecting disconnected micro-conversions.

A symptom becomes useful when it is tied to a shopper's current job. This module teaches two linked decisions: locate the shopper before diagnosing the store, then choose one observable progress signal for that stage.

Arrive → Continue is Atlas synthesis. Record what the shopper arrived from or just completed, what they are trying to do, and the next action that would count as continuing. This prevents a page list from standing in for a journey.

Next, map the shopper job to an eligible population, event definition, denominator, and business guardrail. Shopify's standard funnel includes sessions, cart additions, checkout reaches, and completed checkouts, with different open and closed counting behavior.1 GA4 supplies additional ecommerce events such as product views, add to cart, checkout, and purchase when implemented with the required context.2 Those tools measure configured paths. They do not establish one universal journey or prove why somebody stopped.

Module diagnostic

Take one concern such as “product pages are weak.” Can you state the shopper job, source or prior action, current state, next meaningful action, eligible population, event definition, denominator, evidence limit, business guardrail, and owner? If not, the diagnosis is still too broad.

Assignment

Write one stage brief for a real symptom. Map Arrive and Continue, list the smaller commitments between them, and select one progress signal. Verify the existing event before adding instrumentation. Choose only one uncertain transition for follow-up.

When data is missing, use a direct task check, support record, customer observation, or another suitable artifact and label the conclusion untested. Escalate a known transaction failure, data-loss risk, critical accessibility barrier, or safety issue directly.
