LockedLessons
4 lessons, in order.
- Lesson 1: Separate cart recovery from checkout recovery
Use the furthest reliable event, eligibility rule, and restorable destination for each recovery flow.
Locked✓ - Lesson 2: Use browse abandonment only for identifiable product interest
Follow up on a meaningful product view only when identity, permission, product state, and purchase suppression agree.
Locked✓ - Lesson 3: Treat a back-in-stock signup as one promise, not a list add
A back-in-stock alert should preserve the selected variant, available inventory, and the permission the shopper actually gave.
Locked✓ - Lesson 4: Send price-drop alerts from a real item-level change
Notify eligible shoppers only when the product they considered has a material, current, and purchasable price drop.

Abandonment recovery begins after the store observes a specific kind of intent and can contact an eligible person. The business outcome is a recovery system whose trigger, permission, product state, destination, and reporting agree. More messages are not the objective.
The decisions in this module connect because every recovery flow depends on what the shopper actually did. Shopify Messaging separates abandoned product browse, cart, and checkout automations.1 A back-in-stock request is different again: the shopper could not buy the selected item and asked for a future availability message.
Use this sequence:
- Name the observed event and the sales channels that supply it.
- Confirm how the person and product or variant become identifiable.
- Define recipient eligibility, consent, suppression, wait, and cancellation behavior.
- Verify that the destination restores or honestly reconstructs the shopper's intent.
- Test positive, suppressed, unavailable, and completed-purchase cases.
- Report observed delivery and response separately from incremental impact.
Module diagnostic
Choose one active recovery message. Can the owner show its source event, customer identifier, consent state, exact item or variant, current availability, cancellation condition, landing destination, and send record? The first missing item is the gap to fix before adding another message.
Assignment
Map one cart or checkout recovery path and one inventory-triggered path if the store uses both. Record trigger, captured identity, promise, eligibility, wait, cancellation, destination, owner, failure case, and measurement source. Run one intended-send case and one intended-no-send case for each selected path.
