Match homepage search prominence to the catalog
Give search visual priority when shoppers arrive with specific intent and the catalog can support their queries.

Make search prominent when shoppers are likely to arrive with a product, model, attribute, or use case in mind and the catalog can return credible answers. Keep it secondary when a small catalog is faster to understand through visible categories.
Prominence is not an argument for buying a search app. A large search box amplifies the search system you already have. If product data, synonyms, query handling, or results are weak, the homepage simply sends more shoppers into that failure.
