Make parent categories useful destinations

Let shoppers open a broad category without forcing them to choose a narrower branch first.

Skip this if Stores whose navigation has no parent and child category levels

A parent label such as “Women,” “Furniture,” or “Skin Care” has two jobs: expose its children and offer the broader destination. Do not make a shopper choose a narrow subcategory just because the menu needs a trigger.

The decision: make each parent category a real link to a useful broad collection or landing page, while giving the menu its own predictable open control. Baymard observed shoppers attempting to click broad headers and using those destinations for exploratory browsing.[1]
