Design surveys around one decision
Ask neutral questions of a defined population, pretest the questionnaire, and keep conclusions inside the sampling and wording limits.
Skip this if Questions that require observing task behavior rather than collecting stated responses
Design a survey or poll around one decision and one defined population. Ask neutral questions that respondents can answer from their own experience, pretest the questionnaire, and report only what the sample and wording support.
A survey measures stated responses. It does not show how someone completes a task, prove why behavior occurred, or estimate a whole customer population from an uncontrolled website poll. Pew Research Center emphasizes that wording, question order, and pretesting affect what a questionnaire measures.[1]
