Optimize Shopify images at the right layer
Separate source-image choices from Shopify delivery, theme markup, and app behavior.
"Compress the images" is often the wrong ticket. Shopify already handles part of delivery, while the source asset, theme markup, page composition, and apps control other parts.
The decision: identify which layer is causing the image cost, then change that layer without duplicating Shopify's built-in delivery work.
