Use Shopify's standard GA4 route before adding custom events

Connect the supported Shopify integration, verify the ecommerce journey, and add custom collection only for a named measurement gap.

Skip this if Headless storefronts or bespoke checkout flows without an implementation owner

Start with Shopify’s documented GA4 connection. Add custom instrumentation only when a named business decision requires an event or parameter the standard route does not provide.

Shopify’s current setup uses the Google & YouTube sales channel to connect a GA4 property.[1] Google states that a Shopify setup collects some ecommerce events automatically, including add_to_cart, begin_checkout, and purchase.[2] That is a starting point, not proof that every event, parameter, market, and device works on your store.
